History Of The Buckhorn Inn & Tavern

Again And Again, People Come Through The Doors Of The Buckhorn Inn Speaking Of A Time Spent Here And Of The Wonderful Memories They Had.

Built in 1811 and operated as a stagecoach stop, The Buckhorn Inn has been serving visitors for over 200 years. Its history is as rich and colorful as the property it sits on. The estate has served as an infirmary during the civil war, a place to gamble, dance, eat, drink, and a home away from home for generations. Newly renovated in 2021, come enjoy a modern stay at a historic and secluded Inn.

The historical Buckhorn Inn & Tavern was built in 1811 and has gone through many phases.

It was originally known as the “Dudley House” and was a stagecoach stop. Over the years it has been a place for gambling, a tavern, and a dining location, with more in between.

“This place has a long history. There’s been a lot of people who have stayed here over the time, and we want to make sure that people continue to stay here,” Jack said. “We wanted to modernize the rooms a little bit while keeping with the historic charm,” Brenda said.

Historical Building in Churchville Revamped

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) – What was once a stagecoach stop between Staunton and Western Virginia will now be a bed and breakfast.
 
Brenda and Jack Kearney have revamped The Buckhorn Inn & Tavern in Churchville and are looking forward to reopening its doors.
 
The historical Buckhorn Inn & Tavern was built in 1811 and has gone through many phases.

A spotlight on The Buckhorn Inn & Tavern in Churchville, VA

Most things go down in History, but the Buckhorn Inn is going up and forward in a big way! It was built in the early 1800’s and known as the Dudley House, then the Buckhorn Tavern, over its rich history it was a resting point for stagecoach Travelers, a gambling spot, a place to indulge in food and spirits and at one point early on, it even became a hospital for civil war soldiers.  

In most recent decades it has been utilized as a BNB with overnight accommodations and restaurant services. Most recently the Buckhorn Inn was taken over by Brenda and Jack Kearney partnering with Danielle and Brandon McCown, who had clear and big plans to put a modern twist on this historic gem.
